Valentin Boxberger

Valentin Boxberger (born February 14, 1539 in Königshofen im Grabfeld , † March 15, 1596 in Schleusingen ) was court official of the last Prince Count of Henneberg and then electoral Saxon and princely Saxon bailiff and district judge in Schleusingen in the county of Henneberg .

Life

Valentin Boxberger attended school in Naumburg (Saale) for four years from 1556 and then went to the University of Jena . He then returned to Königshofen, where he worked as a cantor and schoolmaster for two years. In 1563 he was brought to the royal Henneberg court as the preceptor of the noble boys and was also employed in the local chancellery there. Due to his talent, he was soon promoted to chamber secretary and then to office secretary. He held these offices until the death of Duke Georg Ernst von Henneberg in 1583. After that, he served as a councilor to his widow Elisabeth (1548–1592), the daughter of Duke Christoph von Württemberg , for a few years until she helped Count Palatine Georg in 1586 Gustav von Pfalz-Veldenz-Lauterecken (1564–1634) married. After the death of the bailiff and district judge Eberhard Wolff in Schleusingen in 1583, he also took over his offices and was officially confirmed in this function in 1587 by the elector Christian of Saxony , who had taken over the authority of Schleusingen .

His funeral took place on March 16, 1596, the funeral sermon given by Pastor Joachim Zehner was published in Schmalkalden in print.

Valentin Boxberger's successor in office was Humpert von Langen, the great-grandfather of the forester Johann Georg von Langen .
