Valentin Lavillenie ( valɑ̃tɛ̃ la.vi.lə.ni or valɑ̃tɛ̃ la.vil.ni ; born July 16, 1991 in Barbezieux-Saint-Hilaire ) is a French pole vaulter . His older brother is the world record holder and Olympic champion Renaud Lavillenie .

Athletic career

Valentin Lavillenie won the bronze medal at the U23 European Championships in Tampere in 2013 with a skipped 5.50 m. In the same year he took part in the World Championships in Moscow , but remained in the final as the only one of the 13 qualified athletes without a valid attempt. At the Jeux de la Francophonie in Nice, he won the gold medal with 5.50 m.

At the European Indoor Championships in 2015 in Prague, Lavillenie took sixth place with a height of 5.65 m.
