Valentina Kerst (* 1979 in Cologne ) is a German business economist and political officer ( SPD ). Since February 20, 2018, she has been State Secretary for "Economic Policy, Economic Development, Tourism and the Digital Society" in the Thuringian Ministry of Economics, Science and Digital Society .

Life

education and profession

Kerst graduated from the Erich Gutenberg vocational college in Cologne in 1999 and completed vocational training as a clerk in the property and housing industry from 2000 to 2003 . She then worked as a sales manager at Corpus Asset Wohnen until 2006 . She then began studying business administration at the Fresenius University of Applied Sciences , which she completed in 2009 with a degree in business administration with a thesis on "Content Distribution - Content (R) evolution. Possibilities and Effects of Content Distribution Modes on the Internet ”. Parallel to her studies, she worked at eco - Association of the Internet Industry in the field of business development . After completing her studies, Kerst founded a digital consultancy in 2010. In March 2013 she became a lecturer in social media and communication at the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung and in October 2013 lecturer in online marketing and social media at the mibeg Institute medien . From April 2016, she worked as a lecturer for online and mobile strategies at the University for Media, Communication and Business .

On February 20, 2018, the Thuringian Prime Minister Bodo Ramelow appointed Kerst State Secretary in the Thuringian Ministry of Economics, Science and Digital Society . She took over the business areas of economic policy, economic development, tourism and the digital society and was the successor of Georg Maier , who was appointed Minister of the Interior and Local Affairs on August 30, 2017 .

Political activities

Kerst is a member of the Social Democratic Party of Germany . From 2009 she was the founder and head of the "Forum Netzpolitik" of the SPD subdistrict of Cologne, between 2011 and 2017 a member of the board of this subdistrict and in 2015 a member of the program advisory board of the SPD party executive committee for the SPD basic program "#Digital Leben" - subject area "Good work in the digital society ”.

Kerst is married, has one daughter and speaks Croatian as well as German and English .
