Valle Millecampi
surface 16.08 km²

The Valle Millecampi is one of the shallow fishing grounds in the Venice lagoon . It is the only area in the lagoon that belongs to the province of Padua , more precisely to the Municipalità Codevigo , a place of little more than 6000 inhabitants. The distance between the lagoon town and Codevigo is around 9 km.

The area of the Valle is 1608 hectares , making it one of the largest Valli da pesca in the lagoon. In the west it borders on the Valle Morosina and the Valle Ghebo Storto, in the east on the Valle dei Sette Morti and other small valleys. Valle Millecampi mainly consists of a lake, while the rest of the area consists of Velme , shallows with no vegetation that only appear at low tide, the Cason Millecampi , and Barene , which rarely submerge at high tide. Channels known as ghebi flow between these bars . The area receives salt water via the Sette Morti, Acque Negre and smaller canals, plus a little fresh water via the Scirocchetto, Cavaizza Scirocchetto and Novissimo canals and the Fogolana drainage ditch in Conche. Here is the island of Torson di Sotto .

The bar system could be restored at the end of the 20th century after heavy sediment runoff as a result of the widening and deepening of the Adriatic approaches to the lagoon had endangered its continued existence. Such sediment losses had already occurred in the 17th century through the diversion of the Brenta , which no longer flowed into the lagoon, as the sediment inflow did not occur from this side. The main landowner in Codevigo was the Venetian aristocratic Corner family, later that of the Foscari.

Even for the lagoon, which is home to a rich fauna , especially insects and birds, the Valle Millecampi has an extremely dense population and numerous rare species. Therefore, the area was placed under protection in 1989.
