Lori Ann Lindsey (born March 19, 1980 in Indianapolis , Indiana ) is a former American soccer player . She last played for the Australian first division club Canberra United FC until the end of 2014 and was part of the US national team for many years .

life and career

Lindsey started playing soccer at Pike High School . During her studies at the University of Virginia , she played from 1998 to 2001 for the Virginia Cavaliers and from 1997 to 2000 for the Indiana Blaze in the W-League . She was named "Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Year" for two consecutive years, something that only Mia Hamm had previously achieved. In 2002 she played in WUSA for San Diego Spirit . In 2003 she won the Founders Cup with Washington Freedom , making her the last WUSA champion. After that the game operations of the WUSA were stopped. In 2007 she won the W-League with Washington Freedom and was also part of the squad that was runner-up in 2009 when the Women's Professional Soccer started . From 2010 to 2011 she played for Philadelphia Independence , before the WPS, the second attempt at a professional women's soccer league in the USA, was discontinued after just three seasons.

In 2013 she played in the newly formed National Women's Soccer League for Washington Spirit and after the end of the season switched to Canberra United in Australia on loan for a season . She returned to Washington in early 2014 before moving to Canberra again in September. There she ended her career at the end of the season after winning the championship.

National team

Lindsey went through several US youth teams and won the Nordic Cup in 2001 with the U-21 .

At the age of 25, she made her first international match against Iceland on July 24, 2005 , but did not appear in any further appearances in the next few years. It was only taken into account again in 2010 and was used in 13 games, including a. at the Algarve Cup , which she won with the US team, and in the third place match at the 2010 CONCACAF Women's Gold Cup , in which the USA qualified for the playoff games against Italy . She was in the squad against Italy, but was not used. In the first game, she received a yellow card as a substitute player.

In 2011 she was also taken into account and was able to repeat the victory at the Algarve Cup and win the four-nation tournament in January 2011. She is part of the US squad for the 2011 World Cup in Germany . In the second World Cup game against Colombia , she was in the starting line-up and thus came to her first World Cup game.

On January 22, 2012, she scored her only international goal in a 13-0 win in Olympic qualification against Guatemala. Lindsey played her last international match on February 13, 2013.
