Vallisneria natans is a species of plant fromthe frog-bite family (Hydrocharitaceae).
description
The rhizome is bulbous. The stolons are approximately 2 millimeters in diameter and are usually smooth. The leaves measure 0.2 to 2 meters × 0.5 to 2 centimeters. There are five to nine leaf veins. The leaf margin is fully or inconspicuously serrated, the tip blunt. The male spathe is ovate-conical, has more than 200 flowers and measures 1.5 to 2 centimeters × 5 to 10 millimeters. The sepals are convex. There is a stamen . The stamens have hairs at the base and are sometimes bilobed at the tip. The female spathe measures 1.5 to 2 centimeters. Your peduncle is 30 to 50 centimeters long or longer and narrow. The sepals are greenish-purple, 2 to 4 × about 3 millimeters in size and blunt at the tip. The petals are white and tiny. There are three staminodes . The fruit is cylindrical and measures 5 to 30 centimeters × approximately 5 millimeters. The seeds are narrowly obovate.
The number of chromosomes is 2n = 20.
Occurrence
Vallisneria natans grows in streams, rivers, ponds and lakes. The species occurs in Japan including the Ryūkyū Islands , Korea , Far East Russia, China (Anhui, Fujian, Guangdong, Guangxi, Guizhou, Hebei, Henan, Hubei, Hunan, Jiangsu, Jiangxi, Jilin, Liaoning, Shaanxi, Shandong, Sichuan, Taiwan, Yunnan and Zhejiang), India , Nepal , Southeast Asia and Australia.
Systematics
Vallisneria natans was first described as Physkium natans by João de Loureiro in 1790 . In 1974, Hara Hiroshi introduced them as Vallisneria natans in the genus Vallisneria .
