Van Albada is an impact crater on Earth's moon southeast of Mare Crisium . It connects directly to the south-southeast edge of the Auzout crater . The Krogh crater is due to the east and the much larger Firmicus crater is in the south-southwest .
Van Albada's outline is essentially circular with a slight bulge to the northwest. The crater wall is somewhat thicker in the north, as it is reinforced at this point by the foothills of the Auzout crater . In the eastern part, a small impact crater interrupts the crater rim.
The crater floor is darker than the surrounding terrain and its albedo is similar to the lunar sea in the northwest.
Before the crater was given its current name by the International Astronomical Union (IAU) in 1976 , it was known as 'Auzout A'.
