Van Helsing's Factory is an indoor roller coaster of the type Bobsled Coaster from the manufacturer Gerstlauer in Movie Park Germany . The track was opened on June 18, 2011 in a hall that formerly housed the Gremlins Invasion themed ride .
The roller coaster, like other rides of the type, has elements of a wild mouse with uneven curves as well as helices and turns. In addition, there are elements of a ghost train with the theme of the character of the vampire hunter Van Helsing in the film of the same name from 2004 .
After the park was sold by Six Flags to Palamon in 2004, the theme ride based on the Gremlins films could no longer be operated due to a lack of a license . The driving system was only used for the Halloween Horror Festival. In the summer of 2010, the park management announced that the hall would be converted with a themed roller coaster.
The waiting area for the roller coaster is located inside the building, in two of the rooms that were formerly used as a cinema for the preshow of the Gremlins Invasion . In another of these rooms, in the exit area, there is a shop for the onride photos and films taken during the journey as well as thematically appropriate articles. Both inside and out, the building was designed like a run-down gas station. The queue leads past various car parts and machines. In the second room, a projection of Van Helsing, who is repairing the car, sets the tone for the story of the journey: the passengers are supposed to arm themselves and support the protagonist in fighting vampires.
Course of the journey
The station is left by the carriages for 4 people in two rows with two people each in a left curve. In front of the first of the two lifts, the journey goes through a flat stretch, past another projection by Van Helsing. The 7.7 meter high chain lift ends in a helix leading down to the right. After turning over a crest, there is an excessive left turn, followed by the first block brake . In total darkness there are three 180 ° “ mouse curves ” and then another block brake, before the wagons are transported up the second 7.5 meter high lift hill after a 90 ° right-hand bend with friction wheels. The lift hill is lined with junk-old cars, in which animatronics of a monster and a werewolf can be seen. As a special feature, the wagons are accelerated with increasing height on the lift. This is followed by a double helix to the left and a right-left combination of curves in which the cars drive through a so-called fog screen onto which a vampire is projected. After a final left turn, the cars drive through a straight line with a final brake and come to a stop on the station.
With a total of nine cars, the railway has a theoretical capacity of 850 people per hour.
Awards
In 2012, the park and the manufacturer Gerstlauer for the roller coaster was awarded the "FKF-Award 2011" innovation from the Freundeskreis Kirmes und Freizeitparks e. V. excellent. In the grounds, the combination of ghost and roller coaster was highlighted as a pleasure for the whole family. Furthermore, in 2011 the attraction received the Worldofparks Award as the best novelty in a German amusement park.
