Van Laack is a German textile company based in Mönchengladbach . The company is known for high quality shirts . Four of its own factories in Tunisia and one each in Mönchengladbach, Hanoi and Indonesia produce around 1.4 million items a year, including around 50,000 made-to- measure shirts .

The company is a member of the teXellence network .

history

The company was founded in 1881 by Heinrich van Laack and his partners Wilhelm Schmitz and Gustav Eltschig in Berlin at 5 Greifswalder Strasse . A brass plaque and a facade ornament consisting of the initials of the founders remind of this today.

In 1920 the company was taken over by the German-American Mrs. Bennaton, as the three founders had left no descendants. In the time of the Roaring Twenties , the shirt developed into one of the first branded products in the clothing industry, from which van Laack profited. With the slogan "van Laack - The royal shirt", the lettering, which is still used today, was created.

In 1930 the company was taken over by Mrs. Bennaton's nephew Alfons Schnoeckel, who ran it until the Second World War .

The factory was repeatedly bombed during the Second World War . After the war Schnoeckel was expropriated by the Soviet military administration in Germany . He moved to Mönchengladbach and met Heinrich Hoffmann. He acquired the company, moved the headquarters to Mönchengladbach and rebuilt it.

In 1970 Rolf Hoffmann took over the management of the company from his father, went on a course of expansion, had the first Van Laack women's collection presented in 1972 and expanded into the tie and nightwear business in 1983 .

1986 Hoffmann sold the company to the management holding company Delton AG for investments. In the first few years under the management of Delton AG, the company generated double-digit returns on sales and was able to assert itself as the undisputed market leader in the luxury segment.

In the 1990s, the company faced competition in the shirt market from fashion companies such as Boss and Joop . The management wanted to secure its market share through the Total Look program - a complete outfit from underpants to a jacket - and flagship stores in posh locations. For this, double-digit million amounts were invested without the corresponding success.

From around 2000 Delton initially looked in vain for a buyer. In 2002 Christian von Daniels acquired the company. Among other things, by rejuvenating the brand and a quality offensive, he brought the company back into profitability.

In September 2009, van Laack opened an online store on his website and thus entered e-commerce. In addition, the company is now represented on all five continents: it operates around 90 mono stores and shop-in-shop stores.

The company continues to produce predominantly men's shirts as well as men's and women's collections and accessories .
