Vanessa Brown

Vanessa Brown (born March 24, 1928 in Vienna as Smylla Brynd ; † May 21, 1999 in Woodland Hills , Los Angeles ) was an Austrian - American actress .

Life

Vanessa Brown was born in Vienna in 1928 to Jewish parents under the name Smylla Brynd. In 1937, she and her family fled National Socialism to Paris and a few years later to the United States. In 1941 she auditioned for a role in the Broadway play Watch on the Rhine and was hired as an understudy for actress Ann Blyth . She then received other roles as the first cast and used her experience to write plays herself. Because of her above-average intelligence, she appeared on the radio series Quiz Kids .

Hollywood soon became aware of the young actress, where she was mainly cast in inguinal roles - for example as a young lover. She took on major appearances in the films A Ghost on Free Feet , The Heiress and Tarzan and the Slave Girl . After her role in Vincente Minnelli's film drama City of Illusions (1952), she only appeared in a few films, instead Brown appeared again more often in the theater. She was also featured in American television series such as Perry Mason , General Hospital, and Dallas from the 1950s to the 1980s .

In 1959 she married television director Mark Sandrich Jr., son of director Mark Sandrich , and had two children. The marriage ended in divorce. In 1988 the actress was diagnosed with breast cancer. Shortly afterwards, she lost her home in an earthquake . She died in 1999 at the age of 71 as a result of her cancer.

Vanessa Brown earned two stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for her film and television work .
