The Vanguard Nunatak (from English vanguard for German vanguard ) is a 715 m high and conspicuously conical nunatak in the West Antarctic Queen Elizabeth Land . It rises on the northern foothills of the Forrestal Range in the Pensacola Mountains .
The United States Geological Survey mapped it using surveys and aerial photographs by the United States Navy between 1955 and 1966. The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named it in 1968 after its exposed location.
