Vasile Alexandrescu Urechia
V. A. Urechia (* 15. February 1834 in Piatra Neamt , † 22. November 1901 in Bucharest ) was a Romanian politician, writer, historian, linguist , and Hispanist Rumänist .
life and work
Urechia attended high school in Iaşi , went to Paris in 1850 on a scholarship and studied at the Sorbonne from 1855 to 1857 . In 1857 he married a Spaniard and spent a year in Spain. From 1858 to 1864 he was professor of Romanian and Latin literature as well as universal history at the University of Iaşi . In 1864 he went to Bucharest and was Professor of History and Romanian Literature at the University of Bucharest , at the same time in a leading position in the Ministry of Education. From 1866 to 1884 he was a member of parliament (from 1881 to 1882 also Minister of Education), then a senator until 1899.
Urechia was a founding member of the Romanian Academy from 1866 . He was a corresponding member of academies in Spain and Italy.
