Father to the power of four is a recurring theme in Danish family entertainment - originally a comic , then a film series, a series of books and finally a theater performance.

In all variants of father to the power of four it is about a family consisting of a father and four children: big sister Søs, twins Ole and Mie and younger brother Lille Per. Lille Per means little Per , which makes sense, since he is the smallest.

history

The comic was created in 1948 by the Danish caricaturist Kaj Engholm and continued until his death in 1988. The comic was published by the Danish newspaper Politiken until 1955 , after which Berlingske Tidende began to publish the comic. The series also appeared in a number of brochures. The text was mainly written by Olav Hast . As is common with newspaper strips and family comics, the father's children do not get older to the power of four over time, so there is no real character development. On the flip side, the cartoon's father, who was originally bald, was influenced by the film's father because Ib Schønberg refused to be crowned for the role.

The original series began in 1953 and ended in 1961. In the original series, a total of eight films were shot in and around the ASA film studios in Lyngby . All films were directed by Alice O'Fredericks and produced by Henning Karmark.

Ten years later, Panorama Film tried to revive the film series with Ib Mossin as filmmaker. With actor Helge Kjærulff-Schmidt in the lead role as father and Buster Larsen as uncle Anders, the film got off to a good start as the actors were well-known actors from Denmark - Buster Larsen, who had participated in the classic Danish Matador series. Only one movie has been made with this crew, and it is not considered part of the canon of dad four by the majority of the show's supporters.

ASA Film later restarted itself in collaboration with Scanbox and via. October 2012 produced seven films. The first six with Niels Olsen as father, Jess Ingerslev as Uncle Anders and Kasper Kesje as Lille Per. The new films have so far been a great success with 300,000–500,000 cinema tickets sold per film.

The seventh film in the series, Father to the Power of Four - Uncle Sofus Returns , premiered on February 6, 2014. This film has a new cast compared to the previous films in the series. Jesper Asholt (father), Kurt Ravn (uncle Anders), Bodil Jørgensen (Mrs. Sejersen), Sigurd Philip Dalgas (Little Per), Emilie Werner Semmelroth (sister), Karoline Hamm (Mie) and Rasmus Bardram Johnbeck (Ole). The film is directed by Giacomo Campeotto .

The eighth film in the series was titled Der Wilde Urlaub von Vater hoch vier (in Danish: Far til fires vilde ferie ) and premiered in 2015. The film had the same cast and direction as the previous one. But Kirsten Lehfeldt can be seen in the role of Mrs. Sejersen in this film after Bodil Jørgensen had an accident during the shooting.

The ninth film, Father to the power of four - at the top - premiered on February 9, 2017. The line-up was new this time with Martin Brygmann (father), Thomas Bo Larsen (Uncle Anders), Elton Rokahaim Møller (Lille Per) and Coco Hjartemaal (Søs). , Laura Lavigne Bie-Olsen (Mie), Mingus Hellemann Hassing (Ole). The film is directed by Martin Miehe-Renard .
