Jesper Asholt
Jesper Christian Asholt (born May 11, 1960 in Silkeborg , Denmark ) is a Danish actor .
Life
Jesper Asholt grew up as the youngest of three children of a doctor in the Danish town of Bjerringbro . In his youth the family often attended performances at the Aarhus Teater . He gained his first theater experience during his school days at Busbjerg-Spillene , an open-air theater in Ulstrup . Contrary to his father's wish to become either an engineer or a doctor, Asholt opted for a career as an actor. After completing an apprenticeship, he began studying acting at Aarhus Teater in 1987, which he successfully completed in 1991.
After roles in Jonas Elmer's multi-award-winning drama Let's Get Lost (1997) and Jørn Faurschous Albert and the great Rapallo (1998), he had his first major success as a film actor in 1999 with his portrayal of Rud in Søren Kragh-Jacobsen's feature film Mifune - Dogma III . His portrayal of the mentally handicapped Rud was praised nationally and internationally by film critics. Asholt already received remarkable reviews during the film premiere at the Berlinale 1999 . AO Scott of the New York Times recognized Asholt's character as "the holy fool of film," while renowned film critic Roger Ebert Asholts managed to "ground a story of infinite secrets from real people." The following year, Asholt was named both Best Supporting Actor with one Bodil was also awarded a Robert for Best Supporting Actor .
As the father of little Allan in Peter Schønau Fog's drama Kunsten at græde i kor , Asholt celebrated his second big success. The literary film adaptation is based on the semi-biographical novel The Art of Weeping in Choir by Erling Jepsen and has won almost 30 national and international film prizes. Asholt himself was again honored with a Robert for Best Supporting Actor and a Bodil for Best Actor .
Asholt is married to the literary editor Nanna Lund. The couple have two children together.
