Mifune - Dogma III is a Danish film by director Søren Kragh-Jacobsen , which was shot in Denmark in 1998 and 1999 according to the guidelines of the Dogma 95 manifesto.
action
During his honeymoon with his boss's daughter, the careerist Kresten learns of the death of his father, whose existence he had previously kept from his wife. Kresten returns to the village where he grew up to look after his mentally handicapped brother Rud and his father's run-down farm. Because he wants to get back to life in the city as soon as possible, he hires the housekeeper Liva, who is also supposed to look after Rud. Liva is also hiding something: She is a prostitute who takes a job in the country in order to escape the telephone harassment of a psychopath and to be able to pay the boarding costs for her cheeky little brother Bjarke. He is soon thrown out of the boarding school and joins the rural community, which is forced to find peaceful intercourse with one another despite all its diversity.
During a visit to the farm, Krest's wife learns the truth about his past. She breaks up with him because of his lies and sees him lose his job in her father's company. After a few more turbulent scenes, the film ends in the hope that abstract concepts such as love and happiness will become tangible components for the protagonists of the plot.
title
The Danish original title is Mifunes sidste sang ("Mifunes last song"). It refers to the Japanese actor Toshirō Mifune , whose films admire the diverse brothers.
Reviews
- Der Spiegel (21/1999) thinks that the film turned out to be better than the previous Dogma 95 films, Das Fest und Idioten . "In this way, innovative cheap films quickly become conventional auteur cinema."
- In the lexicon of international film , the film critic Ralf Schenk finds Mifune “unclouded cinematic pleasure”. In place of the abysmal disturbance in the other Dogma films, he sees the pleasure in the comic, in place of the brittle uncertainty the entertaining plea for happiness through harmony. What is unmistakable in all Dogma films, including Mifune, is the closeness to Ingmar Bergman .
- Filmspiegel.de: “Sensitive, humorous character study with remarkable actors. Technically stylized. "
Awards
