action

During a wedding reception, a group of less privileged men climb over the fence of their property and blow up the party.

production

Staff and idea

Directed by Michel Franco , who also wrote the script. Born in Mexico City, Franco began filmmaking while studying. After various short films and commercials, he was invited to the Quinzaine des Réalisateurs in Cannes in 2009 with his feature film debut Daniel & Ana . Three years later he also received the Un Certain Regard Prix for After Lucia in Cannes . In 2015, the film he produced, 600 Millas, was presented at the Berlinale in the Panorama section and recognized as the best debut film. He also acted as the producer of the Venezuelan-Mexican film Caracas, a love of Lorenzo Vigas , who also won the Golden Lion at the 2015 Venice Film Festival.

Franco wanted to draw a dystopia of the near future in Nuevo Orden , of the gap between rich and poor in Mexico City, and thus the reversal of a utopia. Using this genre, he explores current topics, but without the obligation to remain true to reality. Franco names the dystopian film A Clockwork Orange by Stanley Kubrick as influences , but also other films and books such as 1984 or Alfonso Cuarón's film Children of Men . Nuevo Orden wants to show the risks that society in his country will face in the future if the existing inequalities are not corrected, says producer Edgar San Juan . Before filming began, Franco said: “It's no secret that Mexico is very poor. 25 million people are starving, nobody talks about it. My new film has to do with a number of things that are normally not dealt with in the cinema. ”However, the film not only has to do with the current situation in Mexico, but also with what is happening in many countries, regardless of whether they are Revolts in Hong Kong or the yellow vests in France.

Cast and filming

The country's financial corridor is located on Avenida Reforma in Mexico City. The quarter is also a showcase and nightlife mile for tourists

Filming ended in May 2019. Among other things, the film was shot in Avenida Reforma in Mexico City, but the recordings were digitally revised. The working title was Lo que algunos soñaron , also called The Dreams of a Few . The film was also announced under the title What Some Dreamed . The final film title Nuevo Order is also written in mirror writing on posters . The camerawoman was the Belgian Yves Cape , with whom Franco had already worked for Las hijas de Abril .
