Vaughn Meader

Abbott Vaughn Meader (born March 20, 1936 in Waterville , Maine , † October 29, 2004 in Auburn , Maine) was an American comedian , parodist , musician and actor . He became known for parodies by John F. Kennedy .

Life

Meader was born in Waterville, Maine, United States in 1936. After his father died in a swimming accident when Vaughn was one year old, he was sent to a children's home in Massachusetts . Then he went through a chaotic youth, attended a total of five high schools . He achieved fame through the comedy album " The first family ", in which he parodied the US President John F. Kennedy. This was published in November 1962 and was sold 1.2 million times within two weeks. That made it the fastest selling album of all time. In 1963 the album won a Grammy for Album of the Year. In total it was sold 7.5 million times. About six months after the publication of "the first family" appeared "The first family Vol.2", which also sold several hundred thousand times. Due to his success, he became well known in the United States and was also in demand as an actor. With the assassination attempt on Kennedy on November 22, 1963 in Dallas , Meader's career was de facto over. His Kennedy parodies were no longer sold. Meader called the day Kennedy was murdered the day "I died". He came into increasing contact with alcohol and other drugs . The great professional success also failed to materialize. He ran a pub in Hallowell, Maine and occasionally appeared in small pubs as a singer or comedian. Meader was married three times, but the marriages were all divorced. He died of heart disease on October 29, 2004 at the age of 68.
