The Velisco Poultry GmbH & Co. KG is a German manufacturer of poultry products .

history

The location in Rot am See was founded in 1967 as Schloss Stetten GmbH & Co. founded. In 1971 the Nölke Group from Versmold took over the company. The location in Mutzschen was founded in 1961. After German reunification in 1991, the Nölke Group again acquired this company, which at the time was called Mutzschen Truthahn GmbH . In the same year, the two companies were merged, initially as facilities of the Nölke Gut Stetten division .

In 2003, Nölke acquired the majority of the shares in the newly founded Velisco Geflügel GmbH & Co. KG (company headquarters was initially Ahlhorn ) by bringing in the Gut Stetten division with its production facilities . After the merger, Velisco slaughtered and marketed 12 million turkeys per year, corresponding to around 45% market share in Germany.

In April 2007 the Nölke Group announced the sale of its shares to the agricultural entrepreneur Ulrich Wendeln in Garrel . The third Velisco production site in Ahlhorn (slaughterhouse and cutting shop , also the previous company headquarters; former name: Truthahnschlacht- und Zerlegebetriebe Lethetal Putenspezialitäten GmbH ) was sold to the Heidemark Group, also located in Garrel, after the Velisco company headquarters Relocated to Rot am See.

In December 2007, allegations were made by some employees who had been dismissed by Heidemark in Ahlhorn shortly after the change of ownership that in April and May 2007 larger quantities (several tons) of rotten turkey meat delivered from Poland were repackaged at the Ahlhorn location, sometimes mixed with good meat, and then should have been re-labeled. In this context, on December 5, 2007, at the instigation of the public prosecutor, the Velisco site in Rot am See was searched and files were confiscated.

On February 24, 2010 it was announced that the Kalvelage Group ( Heidemark ) had taken over the majority stake in Velisco from Ulrich Wendeln.

In January 2014, the Velisco slaughterhouse filed for bankruptcy. On February 4, 2014, at the request of the Kalvelage / Heidemark Group, the Crailsheim District Court also imposed preliminary insolvency administration on the assets of Gut Stetten GmbH & Co. KG and Velisco Vertriebs GmbH & Co. KG. The sister company Velisco Immobiliengesellschaft mbH & Co. KG and the joint parent company WU Beteiligungsgesellschaft mbH (majority company: Kalvelage / Heidemark Group) are not affected. The insolvency proceedings were opened in early April 2014. At the end of April 2014, insolvency proceedings were opened against the slaughterhouse's administrative service provider. Since the search for an investor was unsuccessful, almost all employees were laid off on April 28, and the slaughterhouse in Brettenfeld was closed. A transfer company proposed by the insolvency administrator had been rejected by the works council.
