Vello Lind

Vello Lind (born November 2, 1936 in the rural municipality of Karula , † December 24, 2017 in Tallinn ) was an Estonian agronomist and politician .

Life, Agriculture and Politics

Vello Lind was born in the rural south of the Republic of Estonia. Until 1951 he attended primary school in the village of Pikkjärve . In 1956 he graduated from secondary school in the city of Valga . In 1961 Vello Lind graduated from the Agronomy Academy in Tartu (now the Estonian University of Environmental Sciences ) with a degree in agronomy . In 1980 he received his doctorate with a thesis on the subject of chicken feeding .

From 1961 to 1968 Lind served as chief agronomist in the state farm of Riisipere busy. From 1968 to 1981 he headed the Ranna sovkhoz on Lake Peipus . In addition, he was also politically active. From 1976 to 1990 Lind was a member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Estonia (EKP) and was a member of the Supreme Soviet of the Estonian SSR .

In January 1981 Lind was appointed Minister of Agriculture of the Estonian SSR. He held the office until the end of March 1983. From March 1983 to December 1985, Lind held the post of First Vice-Chairman of the Agro-Industrial Collective of the Estonian SSR. From 1985 to the end of December 1989, he was First Vice-Chairman of the State Agro-Industrial Committee of the Estonian SSR.

With the emerging independence of Estonia from the Soviet Union, Lind broke away from the CPSU . From May 7, 1990 to February 13, 1991, Lind was Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Estonia in the cabinet of Prime Minister Edgar Savisaar .

After leaving the Estonian government, Lind worked as a consultant for the Estonian poultry breeding company Tallinna Linnuvabrik (now Tallegg ) from 1991 to 1999 .
