Vendelín Grünwald (* 1812 in Dolní Břežany , † 1885 in Prague ) was a Bohemian-Czech lawyer and member of parliament.

Life

Grünwald studied at the Prague grammar school, then philosophy at the Charles University in Prague and finally law at the University of Vienna . In Vienna he became one of the leading figures in the Bohemian Enlightenment. After obtaining his doctorate in law, he first opened a law practice. When after the 1848 uprising in Bohemia greater freedom was granted, he completed his habilitation at Prague University in civil law and in the Czech language. Despite his good results and successes, Grünwald could not count on a professorship because of his overly patriotic attitude. It then opened in Budweis in 1854again a practice and also fought for the spread of the Czech language and the national idea. In 1861 the voters from Wittingau , Lischau and Moldautein elected him a member of the Czech Parliament. From there he was unanimously elected to the Vienna Imperial Council. In addition to his political career in the opposition, he set up schools and Czech associations in his constituency. In addition to Bishop Jan Valerián Jirsík, he is responsible for establishing the grammar school in Budweis. In 1883 the Czech parliament was elected director of the mortgage bank . This function required his permanent presence in the capital. He resigned his MP and moved to Prague- Smíchov .

Fonts

During his time as a lecturer, he wrote a non-fiction book on marriage and inheritance law. He published smaller articles in the magazine of the Czech Museum and in Wagner's magazine for Austrian legal scholarship.
