Verónica Echegui (born Verónica Fernández Echegaray on June 16, 1983 in Madrid ) is a Spanish actress .

Life

Verónica Echegui studied acting at the Royal Academy of Drama and Art (RESAD) in Madrid. During her studies she got her first minor roles in television films. In 2006 Bigas Luna’s film Yo soy la Juani (My name is Juani) was released . The role of Juani was her breakthrough. She received several awards for this role and was nominated for the Goya as best young actress. At the Berlinale 2009 she was awarded the European Shooting Star Film Prize. For the film El patio de mi cárcel by Belén Macías she was nominated in 2009 for a Goya in the category of best leading actress. In the same year she took on her first international role in the British film Bunny and the Bull .

In 2018 she was appointed to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences , which awards the Oscars every year.
