Vera Brandes

Vera Brandes (* 1956 in Cologne ) is a German music producer and researcher in music and media effects .

Life and effect

Brandes began to organize jazz concerts and tours at the age of fifteen, first and foremost a tour with Ronnie Scott's trio . In 1974 she organized the New Jazz in Cologne concert series in Cologne , in which the Oregon group appeared as well as Dave Liebman's Lookout Farm , the Pork Pie group around Charlie Mariano and Jasper van't Hof and the quartet by Gary Burton . The fifth concert in the series was the legendary Cologne Concert by Keith Jarrett on January 24, 1975 , which the pianist wanted to cancel because of an insufficient grand piano and fatigue. The concert took place only at the urging and urging of Brandes. Her first record label CMP - founded in 1977 with the concert promoter Kurt Renker from Düren - released albums by Nucleus , Charlie Mariano, Jeremy Steig and Theo Jörgensmann . In 1980 she founded the VeraBra label , where she worked as the sole producer and publisher; 1984 the Intuition label . In total, she produced and published more than 350 albums , among others by Reinhard Flatischler , Lounge Lizards , Mikis Theodorakis , Barbara Thompson , Hermeto Pascoal and Andreas Vollenweider .

As a member of the peace movement , she initiated the One World Music Festival , which first took place in 1990 at the Tanzbrunnen in Cologne and was broadcast in the Rockpalast .

After a car accident, she began studying the medical effects of music in 1995. Since 2004 she has headed the third-party funded research program for music medicine at the Paracelsus Medical Private University in Salzburg. a. conducted a placebo- controlled study with 203 volunteers on the effect of music on depression . Further research projects (currently dementia) are being financed with the development of playback devices for audio cures, with which patients can access programs against depression, burnout syndrome and sleep disorders after the successful completion of extensive double-blind studies . Since 2009 she has been Vice President of the International Association for Music & Medicine (IAMM).
