Vera Hatz

Vera Hatz (born August 15, 1923 in Hamburg , née Jammer; † October 18, 2010 in Eutin ) was a German numismatist .

It was on July 14, 1951 the University of Hamburg with a thesis on the beginnings of coinage in Saxony doctorate . Together with Peter Berghaus and her husband Gert Hatz , she belongs to the "Hamburg School" of numismatics as a student of Walter Hävernick . From July 16, 1951, she worked as a research assistant at the Museum of Hamburg History , and from November 1, 1954, she began working on German coins from the 10th and 11th centuries for the Numismatic Commission of the Federal Republic of Germany Coin finds from the Viking Age in Sweden. Their results have been published in Corpus since 1975 . Nummorum. Saeculorum. IX-XI qui in Suecia reperti sunt . Their classification of the Otto-Adelheid-Pfennige is fundamental .

She and her husband are among the most important medieval numismatists, especially in the field of coins and monetary history of the 10th and 11th centuries. In 1993 she and her husband were awarded the command of the Swedish North Star Order . In 2003 both received the Medal of the Royal Numismatic Society .
