Vera Pedrosa Martíns de Almeida (born January 2, 1936 in Rio de Janeiro ) is a former Brazilian diplomat .

Life

Vera Pedrosa Martíns de Almeida is the daughter of Mary Houston Pedrosa and Mário Pedrosa. She studied philosophy at the Faculdade Nacional de Filosofía in Rio de Janeiro. She completed a Curso Preparatório à Carreira Diplomática at the Instituto Rio Branco. She was the third class secretary from October 24, 1968, second class from January 3, 1972, and first class from August 24, 1977. On August 18, 1981, she was envoys second class on December 17, 1987 and first class on June 21, 1993.

From 1987 to 1988 she was Deputy Head of the International Organizations Department. From 1988 to 1990 she was the coordinator of the office of the head of the presidential office. From 1972 to 1975 she was the secretary of the embassy in Madrid . From 1975 to 1980 she was the legation secretary in Lima . From 1981 to 1983 she was Assistant to the Head of the United Nations Division. From 1983 to 1986 she was Minister Counselor in Paris . In 1987 she headed the United Nations department and was assigned to the management of the international organizations department. From 1990 to 1993 she was envoy and delegate to UNESCO in Paris, where she was chargé d'affaires in 1991.

From 1995 to 1998 she was ambassador in The Hague . From 1999 to September 28, 2001 she was an ambassador in Quito . From September 28, 2001 until the end of 2003 she was ambassador in Copenhagen . Afterwards she was ambassador in Vilnius .

From October 2005 to March 2006 she was ambassador to Paris. There she took part in the realization of a spectacular Ano do Brasil na França (2005 Brazil Year in France): The Brazilian Minister of Culture Gilberto Gil was accepted into the Legion of Honor and received 52,000 signatures against torture in Brazilian prisons, police stations and youth prisons, as well as the recognition of rights of the indigenous peoples.
