Verbaalpina
Verbaalpina (or: Alpine words) is a database of the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München for recording linguistic and dialectal differences in vocabulary in the Alpine region . Verbaalpina would like to collect this multitude of Germanic , Romance and Slavic dialects - namely well over 5000 different local dialects - and make them publicly accessible. The aim is also to document and analyze changes in language. The focus is primarily on terms from the field of alpine farming .

The project selectively and analytically opens up the Alpine region, which is heavily fragmented in individual languages and dialectically, in its cultural and linguistic-historical cohesion, thereby overcoming the traditional limitation to essentially current political units ( nation states ). The selected subject areas concern terms from nature and alpine farming and the associated cultural history and cultural present. The language families of the Alpine region can be roughly divided into Romania Alpina , Slavia Alpina and Germania Alpina . Lexicon Alpinum

Interactive map
The project is constantly being expanded through crowdsourcing and offers everyone who has knowledge of a dialect spoken in the Alpine region the opportunity to enter these expressions in the Verbaalpina database. Images of a typical alpine object such as alpine pastures, huts, flora, fauna etc. can also be uploaded there together with the specific dialect expression to denote what is depicted. If there is enough evidence for the individual concepts, they are grouped and sorted into different criteria.
A corresponding option is also available when searching for morpholexical types or basic types; Above all, the sorting according to the criterion 'concept' is also of interest regardless of the recorded language area, because it reveals the polysemy of each expression. The semantic meanings can then be seen using the example of malga . Thanks to the interactive map, it is possible to go from the concept to the description as well as from the description to the associated concepts. The interactive map that is created from the collected data is freely accessible to everyone on the Internet. The maps created can be shared using a share function, as shown in the example.
