Association of Film Distributors

The Association of Film Distributors e. V. ( VdF ) represents the interests of German film distributors . Another branch association in which the independent film distributors are organized is AG Verleih .

history

The VdF's predecessor organization was the Association of North German Film Distributors, founded in 1946 and based in Hamburg . The Association of Film Distributors was founded in Wiesbaden in 1948 , largely at the instigation of the lawyer Horst von Hartlieb . The entry in the register of associations took place on May 26, 1948.

While at the beginning only the German distributors were members of the association, the American major distributors only joined the VdF on August 3, 1950.

In 1993, after 45 years, Horst von Hartlieb resigned from his position as a managing member of the VdF board. Since November 2015, the executive board has consisted of Martin Bachmann ( Sony Pictures ), Vincent de La Tour ( Twentieth Century Fox ), Oliver Koppert ( Constantin Film ) and Peter Sundarp ( Central Film ).

In 2007 the association moved to Berlin . As of 2017, the VdF has 27 members.

Areas of activity

The association represents the interests of the film distributors in common matters to the outside world. This includes in particular the representation of the film distribution in Germany and abroad as well as in front of authorities, public authorities and members and associations of other film branches.

He also represents the film distributors in other institutions in the film industry such as the Central Organization of the Film Industry (SPIO) and the Film Funding Agency (FFA).

The association also coordinates measures for the detection, elimination and avoidance of grievances in the field of contract fulfillment among film distributors and their contractual partners.

The VdF is a partner in the collecting society for rights to use films (VGF) and the Vision Kino initiative . Together with the Main Association of German Film Theaters (HDF) and the Multiplex Association Cineropa eV, the VdF is also involved in the Zukunft Kino Marketing GmbH.
