history
The earliest written document is from 1193 and is "Fridines". The name is probably to be placed next to the pre-Roman words with -inium suffix. It shows the Rhaeto-Romanic -es at the end, which goes back to the former Ladin colloquial language in the Eisack Valley. From the 13th century onwards, the symbols of Germanization appear in the place names (1272: “Vordins”, 1453 for the first time like today “Verdings”).
