Gerhard Kerschbaumer (born July 19, 1991 in Brixen ) is an Italian mountain biker from Verdings ( Klausen ). He is a multiple national cross country champion and participated in the 2012 Olympic Games in London.

Career

Kerschbaumer began his career in 2000 with the cycling section of S. V. St. Lorenzen , where he rode until 2009. In 2009 he drove his first professional race at the Cross Country Junior World Cup , in which he achieved second place as the best result. In the same year he became Italian cross country champion. In 2010 he won his first U23 World Cup race in Pietermaritzburg and he finished fifth at the 2010 Mountain Bike World Championships in the U23 class.

In 2011 he won four out of seven races and thereby secured the overall World Cup victory. In 2012 he won one of seven U23 World Cup races and finished the season in second place overall. In the same year he took part in the Olympic Games in London. In the race at Hadleigh Farm , he finished thirteenth. In 2013 he was U23 world champion in South Africa (alongside Jolanda Neff in the U23 women) and in the elite World Cup race in Andorra he finished fifth.

Italian champion 2018

In 2015 and 2016 he took first place twice in international races (Kirchberg in Tirol; Courmeyeur-Italy) (Ottenschlag im Mühlkreis-Austria; Salamis, Greece). In 2017 he finished third in the elite world cup race in Mont Sainte Anne (Canada) and was also named Italian champion in the same year.

In 2018 he won his first World Cup victory in Andorra, he took second place in the World Cup race in Val di Sole (Italy) and was again Italian champion of the elite. He also won several international races. In September the South Tyrolean became Vice World Champion Cross Country in Lenzerheide (Switzerland) behind Nino Schurter .
