The Association for Animal and Nature Photography Austria (VTNÖ) was founded in 1988 by six nature photographers who hoped for significant impulses for their own work. Shortly after its foundation, the VTNÖ joined the International Federation of Wildlife Photography (IFWP).

history

In the meantime the association has grown to around 165 members, professional and amateur photographers, mostly from Austria. The members have set themselves the goal of implementing their photographic work through appealing, meaningful and biologically sound nature photos. These works are published in print media such as magazines, books, calendars, and in the association's own magazine “Natur.Fotografie”. In addition, the association is represented by its members at lectures, exhibitions and trade fairs.

Every year the VTNÖ organizes an internal nature photo competition in which a search is made for the "picture of the year" and the overall winner for "nature photographer of the year" in several categories from all submitted photos. Participation is reserved for members of the VTNÖ. The award ceremony takes place as part of the nature photo days, which are organized every year together with the general assembly towards the end of the year. The award-winning images will be presented for the first time during the nature photo days and subsequently on the association's website.

As a special highlight, however, these are also published in the “Natur.Fotografie” magazine of the following year, as well as in extracts in various specialist journals. In the future, the members also want to present the winning pictures in the course of public, renowned exhibitions at home and abroad.

Furthermore, the members organize excursions and regional meetings at irregular intervals to promote the exchange of experiences between the members and to implement joint projects.

Publications

The association magazine "Natur.Fotografie" is aimed primarily at interested nature enthusiasts and ambitious hobby and professional photographers.

In addition to the best nature photos from the “Nature Photo Competition”, readers will find numerous reports on club activities, photo trips, and nature and species protection. It also includes reports by photographers for photographers. The authors provide detailed information, give tips on worthwhile photo spots in local and remote natural areas, explain special photo techniques and describe the development of their individual point of view as well as their methods of image design.

In cooperation with the Association of Austrian Nature Parks (VNÖ), the VTNÖ published the picture book Austrian Nature Parks - Natural and cultural landscapes from their most beautiful sides about Austria's nature parks in 2005 .
