Career

Verena Höllbacher has competed in FIS races and the Austrian championships since the 2002/2003 season . In 2005 she not only reached the first podium places in FIS races, but also stood on the podium for the first time in the Austrian championships as third in the combination. She achieved two second places in giant slalom and combined and a third place in slalom at the Austrian youth championships in the same year. In January 2006 Höllbacher was second at the Austrian Youth Championships in Super-G; in March she won her first FIS race. In 2007 she became Austrian junior champion in giant slalom and was third again on the podium of the Austrian championships . The next year she reached second place in the giant slalom at the Swiss championships .

Höllbacher drove the first races in the European Cup in December 2004. After initially not having achieved any top positions, her results improved in the 2007/2008 season . On November 28, 2007 she drove as third in the slalom of Rovaniemi for the first time on the podium; another third place followed on February 5, 2008 in the giant slalom in Abetone . At the beginning of the 2008/2009 season , Höllbacher secured second place in the indoor slalom in Amnéville , as well as 17th place in the second indoor slalom, and third place in the Indoor Cup. In the rest of the winter, she achieved top 10 results in slalom and giant slalom, especially in the Super-G, including third place in Kvitfjell , which brought her to fourth in the discipline classification. She could not follow this up in the 2009/2010 season . This winter, a tenth place in the super combined by Caspoggio was her best result.

In the World Cup , Höllbacher made her debut on January 11, 2009 in the Slalom of Maribor , where she was eliminated in the first round. In the next two years only one more World Cup start followed on November 14th, 2009 in the Slalom of Levi , in which she missed the qualification for the second run of the best 30 by over a second. A week earlier she had taken part in the European Indoor Championships, where she could not qualify for the main competition of the best 16 and finished 29th.

After the 2009/2010 season, Höllbacher was released from the squad of the Austrian Ski Association . Until then, she had been part of the B-squad for two years after the junior squad. Höllbacher decided to take a second attempt, mostly trained with the Salzburg national team and in winter 2010/2011 got, in addition to starts at FIS races and in the European Cup - where she did not score any points - the opportunity to take part in two World Cup races again. However , she was eliminated in the first round in both the Zagreb slalom and the Flachau slalom . After the end of the 2010/2011 season, Höllbacher announced her resignation.
