Verena Mermer
Verena Mermer (* 1984 in St. Egyden am Steinfeld ) is an Austrian author .
Life
After finishing elementary school in Höflein, Verena Mermer attended grammar school in Wiener Neustadt . She then studied German , Romance studies and Indology in Vienna . She worked in Delhi , Baku and Cluj-Napoca .
She initially published her work in anthologies and literary magazines such as kolik and perspektiven . In 2014 she took part in the Wartholz literature competition, where she was one of twelve finalists. In 2015, her debut novel appeared with the voice over the roofs . With the short story Das Rotkehlchen she is represented in the fourth volume of the Viertel -Anthologies Mein Industrieviertel (2017). For excerpts from her second novel Autobus Ultima Speranza (2018), she received, among other things, a START grant for literature in 2014, the exile literature prize for authors with German as a first language in 2016 and a residency grant at the Berlin Literary Colloquium in 2017 .
She lives and works in Vienna.
