The Counts of Veringen were one of the wealthiest and most respected dynasty families of the 11th and 12th centuries in southern Germany (see list of the possessions of the Counts of Veringen ). Actual Counts of Veringen, that is, those who lived here and assigned this name to themselves, appear in a document in the years 1130 to 1415. However, this name was carried back by many historians and writers to the older generations of this family who only dealt with named after their first name or after their former place of residence Altshausen . Although they never called themselves "von Veringen" in their life (as this was a later acquisition), they still belong to the dynasty of the "Counts of Veringen". Count Wolfrad / Wölflin, the last of the counts, died in 1415. The county Veringen went to several changes in 1534 as a fiefdom to the Hohenzollern , Charles I

Veringen Castle, ancestral seat of the Counts of Veringen in Veringenstadt

The headquarters of the Counts of Veringen are in Veringenstadt on the Swabian Alb near Sigmaringen. Here the Lauchert flows in a large curve around a rock spur with the ruins of Veringen Castle on the broad ridge .

The coat of arms of the Counts of Veringen with the three stag sticks still appears today in many coats of arms such as Württemberg , many municipal coats of arms , Porsche or VfB Stuttgart .
