The Annunciation St. Justin Monastery is a male monastery of the Serbian Orthodox Church in the Hessian community Eiterfeld belonging place Unterufhausen .
The monastery is a subsidiary of the Skite of St. Spyridon in Geilnau an der Lahn. Currently (2015) the monastery is only inhabited by one monk, S'chima monk Justin Rauer. That is why the monastery is still called a hermitage . The building, a former mill property, was acquired in 2010. After the renovation of the monastery courtyard and the construction of a new church, the move of the monks from Geilnau to Unterufhausen is planned. The monastery celebrates a double patronage, St. Justin (Popović) and the Annunciation , because according to the Julian calendar, St. Justin was born on this festival in 1894 and died in 1979.
Construction of the monastery church
In December 2013, the Serbian Orthodox Patriarch Irinej blessed a plot of land right next to the monastery courtyard in an orchard for the construction of a church, which began in 2014. The cross-domed church was built on the model of the monastery church of Gradac in Serbia, a building from the late 13th century. The architect Norman Heimbrodt created the plans for the church in Unterufhausen. The church was built in solid wood with walls 34 centimeters thick. In the basement of the 258 square meter church, concrete rooms were built to serve as lounges or dining rooms. The 16 meter high church was oriented with the apse to the east. In the west of the church there is a vestibule, the narthex , above which an apartment for a monk was built. In the summer of 2015, the dome cross was placed on the dome and the outside of the church was plastered. Inside, the church is also to be plastered and frescoed.
