The Verkehrsgemeinschaft Augsburg ( VGA for short ) is a former transport association of the public transport companies of Stadtwerke Augsburg ( SWA ) and Stadtwerke Gersthofen ( SWG for short ). The VGA existed from 1977 to 1999.

The Augsburg tram and the Augsburg and Gersthofer city buses were integrated into the network. The cooperation included a cross-company transport tariff as well as the publication of a common timetable book and, in the event of changes, a supplement to the timetable book.

history

The Augsburg Transport Association was founded in October 1977. In 1985, the Augsburg Transport and Tariff Association ( AVV for short ) was added as a second association based in Augsburg. Unlike the VGA, which was geared towards local public transport in the Augsburg city area, the AVV originally only covered the Augsburg area ( regional bus transport ), so that both transport associations existed side by side as separate systems.

On January 1, 1994, the first stage of a joint tariff of VGA and AVV was introduced, thus abolishing the previously levied S surcharge for the interior. From now on, passengers could use all public transport in the so-called interior , i.e. zones 10 and 20, at the same tariff with their VGA or AVV customer card . On September 1, 1995, the AVV community tariff finally replaced the previous VGA tariff completely, despite various disputes in advance.

Due to the ongoing integration of the Augsburger Verkehrsverbund, the VGA finally became obsolete and dissolved in 1999 with the termination of the network contract by the Augsburg municipal utility. The unilateral termination of the contract led to a long-term legal dispute over the distribution of income between the two transport companies or their successor companies Augsburger Verkehrsgesellschaft ( AVG for short ) and Gersthofer Verkehrsgesellschaft ( GVG for short ). Starting with the founding of the AVG in 2003, the VGA logo gradually disappeared from the Augsburg vehicles and bus stops until 2006, and with the establishment of the GVG in 2006 also from the Gersthofer vehicles.

The free “VGA Zeitung” appeared quarterly. This advertising newspaper provided information about the history of Stadtwerke Augsburg Verkehrsbetriebe, about current campaigns, changes and innovations at VGA, as well as about the function, technology and other information of the Augsburg buses and trams. The successor to the “VGA Zeitung” is the “WIR ... für Sie” newspaper from Stadtwerke Augsburg, with all branches of Stadtwerke Augsburg.

Today all local public transport in the city and region of Augsburg takes place within the AVV.
