City bus

In addition to the tram, the transport company operates city bus lines without the number 58-23. One of them is an amplifier line for work and school traffic with a different route. Line 21 was operated from September 2010 to April 30, 2016 by the Gersthofer Verkehrsgesellschaft (GVG) on a contract basis. Since May 1, 2016, this has been operated by Z Mobility Werner Ziegelmeier GmbH, also on a contract basis. The previous tender stipulated the use of MAN solo buses from AVG. Lines 34 and 39 were also operated by the Storz bus company between January 2012 and December 2013, but with buses from the municipal utility. Before that, SchwabenMobil drivers drove there - also on public utility buses. With the timetable change in December 2014, lines 34 and 39 were renamed to lines 24 and 25 and have since been served again by AVG. In the meantime, the AVG buses continue to operate there, but with Schwabenbus bus drivers, also again on behalf of contract traffic. The line 38 is in the order traffic by the company Schäffler operated (formerly mixed operation AVG and Schäffler), the specially two Mercedes buses holds for it. Line 43 has also been operated on a contract basis from its introduction. SchwabenMobil drove there with its own buses until December 2010, and the Storz company has been responsible for this since December 2010 with a Mercedes bus that was also specially purchased. Occasionally there is also a MAN solo bus from AVG, but with Storz drivers. Line 58 is a joint line of AVG and GVG, but is only served by GVG. Initially, a specially procured Mercedes-Benz Sprinter was used, but in some cases also a normal standard bus. The Mercedes Sprinter has now been replaced by a new Mercedes Sprinter. All bus lines are integrated into the passenger information system (FIS), which shows the next departures at the stops. The AVG fleet has been completely low-floor since the beginning of November 2006, and since January 2011 it has also consisted exclusively of natural gas buses. Diesel buses were only used again during the second Königsplatz renovation. A total of 95 buses are available for regular service.

For the first time in the history of Stadtwerke Augsburg Verkehrsbetriebe and Augsburger Verkehrsgesellschaft (AVG), passengers can now use new vehicles from Mercedes, Citaro 2 (Euro 6 / natural gas) instead of new vehicles from MAN. All vehicles from the first purchase have arrived and are in regular service (as of September 2016). The new buses replaced the MAN NG 313 CNG buses from 2000 (prototype), 2002 and 2003, the last of which was rail replacement services in 2016.

Controlled front entry

Since March 30, 2015, on bus route 32, the driver has only been able to board the bus all day and every day by showing his driver's license. The aim of the test is to reduce deliberate and unintentional fare dodging, e.g. B. forgotten cancellation of stripe tickets. The separate entry and exit areas should also improve the flow of passengers. However, this rule is waived in the case of long delays, passengers with bulky or heavy luggage, passengers with prams and physically handicapped people. Critics of the boarding rule argue that the additional controls overwhelm drivers and passengers. A thorough inspection would cause considerable delays, especially during rush hour.

Since August 1, 2015, the controlled front entry has been valid all day on all bus routes, but not for rail replacement services with buses. During the test phase on line 32, there was an increase in fare income of around 20 percent. A customer survey found that around 75 percent of passengers rate the front entry as either neutral or positive.

Key figures

Development of key figures for the Augsburger Verkehrsgesellschaft between 2005 and 2015

In the period from 2005 to 2015, the Augsburger Verkehrsgesellschaft carried between 55 and 59 million passengers annually. Within these 10 years, the number of vehicle kilometers driven remained relatively constant at 10 million. The length of the bus and tram lines, on the other hand, decreased from a total of 292 kilometers (2005) to 179 kilometers (2015). The main reason for reducing the length of the line was the commissioning of tram line 6 in 2010 and the associated adaptation of the bus network. The diagram opposite shows the individual key figures with reference to the fiscal year.

Personnel policy

When the AVG was founded, Stadtwerke Augsburg Verkehrs-GmbH stopped hiring new bus drivers. From then on, new bus drivers were only hired by AVG and received less salary from AVG than the drivers of Stadtwerke Augsburg Verkehrs-GmbH. Since several warning strikes have meanwhile achieved that the AVG bus drivers receive a similarly high salary as the drivers of Stadtwerke Verkehrs GmbH, the Augsburger Verkehrs-Servicegesellschaft mbH (ASG for short) was founded in 2010 . ASG is a subsidiary of AVG and, just like AVG, also a group of companies or a branch (group structure) of Stadtwerke Augsburg . Now the AVG is also no longer hiring new bus drivers and new bus drivers are only hired by the ASG and receive a lower salary than the AVG drivers. However, the ASG bus drivers drive on behalf of the AVG on their own bus lines as well as the rail replacement services of the tram lines.
