Initial and continuing education

Administrative assistants in Austria complete a three-year apprenticeship in the form of dual training at vocational schools and at training institutions (companies). Visiting a vocational school takes three 9 1/3 weeks across Austria. The training ends with the final apprenticeship examination , which is divided into a written and an oral part. This examination is also considered a qualification for an apprenticeship as an office clerk . Related apprenticeships, such as legal assistant , real estate agent , insurance agent and many other office and administrative jobs can be completed with a shorter apprenticeship period.

The opportunities for further training in the public service sector primarily include internal further training. Many subject-specific courses are offered as well as advanced training for higher functions.

For higher qualifications at colleges, technical colleges and universities, you usually need the vocational matura (vocational matriculation examination), which is made up of the final apprenticeship examination and four other exams. As a result, academic degrees such as Bachelor or Master can be obtained.
