In the administrative community of Gernrode / Harz in the Harz district , five and finally two communities were initially united to handle their administrative business. The administrative community Gernrode / Harz existed since January 1, 1994. Until it was incorporated into the city of Thale , the communities Friedrichsbrunn and Stecklenberg also belonged to the administrative community. After the three remaining places were incorporated into the unitary municipality of Quedlinburg , the administrative community was dissolved on January 1, 2011. On February 19, 2013, the state constitutional court declared the incorporation unconstitutional due to a formal error in the hearing process and repealed it. On December 1, 2013, the municipality of Rieder was spun off from the administrative community and incorporated into Ballenstedt . On January 1, 2014, the administrative community was dissolved again and Bad Suderode and Gernrode were again incorporated into the city of Quedlinburg.
