In the administrative community of Upper Geiseltal in the Saalekreis , two municipalities were united to handle administrative business. The administrative community was founded in 1992.

The municipalities of Branderoda , Gröst , Langeneichstädt and Wünsch , which originally belonged to the administrative community , were incorporated into the city of Müuellen on January 1, 2006. The municipality of Krumpa was incorporated into the city of Braunsbedra with effect from January 1, 2007 .

With the incorporation of the municipality of Oechlitz into the city of Müuellen (Geiseltal) on January 1st 2010, the administrative community was dissolved.

The administrative community had an area of ​​98.59 km² and 9781 inhabitants (December 31, 2008).
