The confused grape hyacinth ( Muscari commutatum ) is a plant species in the genus of grape hyacinth ( Muscari ) from the asparagus family (Asparagaceae). It is rarely used as an ornamental plant.
features
The mistaken grape hyacinth is a perennial herbaceous plant that reaches heights of 10 to 30 centimeters. This geophyte forms onions with a diameter of 1 to 4 cm as persistence organs. Two to five leaves stand upright in a basal rosette; they are 10 to 30 centimeters long, 0.5 to 1.5 centimeters wide and flat or slightly runny.
In a racemose inflorescence , sterile and fertile flowers stand together. The sterile flowers are lighter and smaller than the fertile ones. The fertile flowers are more or less cylindrical and 5 to 6 millimeters long. The perigon border is dark purple.
The flowering period extends from March to April.
The number of chromosomes is 2n = 18.
Occurrence
This species occurs in Italy, Sicily , the Western Balkans, Greece and the Aegean Islands on rocky slopes at altitudes from 0 to 1800 meters.
