Life

Richard With was born in Tromsø, the fifth of nine siblings. Even during his school education at the Teachers' College in Tromsø, he traveled regularly between Vardø and Bergen with his father - also a captain on merchant ships. In 1875 he moved to Risøyhamn and acquired the local trading office, which he expanded with commercial skills in the following years.
