The VfL Repelen (officially: Association for physical exercises 08 Repelen eV ) is a sports club from the Moers district Repelen in Wesel . The first soccer team played for a year in the highest amateur league in the Lower Rhine region.
history
The club was founded on September 27, 1908 as Utforter Turnklub Eintracht , which from 1912 was called Repelen-Utforter Turnklub Eintracht . The second parent club was the Repelner Spielverein founded on April 19, 1925 . Both clubs merged on July 11, 1936 to form VfL 08 Repelen .
The footballers made it into the district class in 1950 and became runner-up there in 1954 behind SC Kleve 63 . A year later, he was promoted to the state league , the highest amateur league at the time on the Lower Rhine. There the Repelner were last in the 1955/56 season and suffered a 9-0 home defeat against Duisburger SC 1900 . Because of the introduction of the Niederrhein Association League, VfL remained a national league team. But just a year later, he was relegated to the district class before it went down to the district class in 1965.
It was not until 1972 that it became possible again. There were many years between the district and district league before the VfL footballers slipped into the district league B in the mid-2000s. In 2006 it went back up to the district league A, before two years later the leap into the district league succeeded. After relegation in 2010, the Repelner returned three years later to the district league, where the team made it through to the state league. In 2018 it went back down to the district league.
