Victor John "Vic" Fangio (born August 22, 1958 in Dunmore , Pennsylvania ) is an American American football coach . He is currently Head Coach of the Denver Broncos in the National Football League (NFL). He previously served as a defensive coordinator for various other NFL teams, including the San Francisco 49ers and the Chicago Bears .

Life

Fangio played in the position of safety at Dunmore High School in his hometown. There he began coaching football at the age of 21.

Coaching career in the NFL

Early stations

After Fangio was responsible for the linebackers of the New Orleans Saints from 1986 to 1995 , he became Defensive Coordinator of the Carolina Panthers in 1995 . From 1999 he held the same office with the Indianapolis Colts , from 2002 with the Houston Texans . Between 2006 and 2009 he was responsible for the linebackers for the Baltimore Ravens . A year-long stint in college football followed .

San Francisco 49ers

In 2011, Fangio went with Jim Harbaugh to the San Francisco 49ers, where he was again active as a defensive coordinator. He held this office until the end of 2014. After the 49ers failed to make Fangio their new head coach for the 2015 season, he said goodbye to San Francisco.

Chicago Bears

For the 2015 season, Fangio joined the Chicago Bears. First under Head Coach John Fox , then under Head Coach Matt Nagy , the defensive developed into one of the strongest in the NFL.

Denver Broncos

On January 10, 2019, the Denver Broncos signed Fangio as their new head coach after Vance Joseph was fired after two seasons. It is the first head coach position for Vic Fangio in his long coaching career. Fangio signed a four-year contract with an option for an additional year. They finished his first season as head coach as the second of AFC West with 7 wins and 9 losses.
