Victor-Joseph Delcambre (born March 10, 1770 in Douai , † October 23, 1858 in Paris ) was a French général de brigade of the infantry .

Life

Delcambre enlisted in the army as a grenadier, enthusiastic about the ideals of the revolution . In the Revolutionary Wars he was known for his bravery and was also promoted very quickly.

At the end of 1793 Delcambre was ready adjutant of the General Staff and as such he fought at Dinant (June 3, 1794), Fleurus (June 26, 1794) and Neufchâteau (July 20, 1794). He was also involved in the siege of Charleroi (June 1794).

Delcambre was also involved in the battles at Nivelles , Roër and Julien ; in the latter he was badly wounded in the left leg.

As a lieutenant he fought at Sulzbach (August 17, 1796) and Wolfering (August 20, 1796) and Neuwied (April 18, 1797). After further promotions he was assigned to July 4, 1798 in the general rank of the Armée de Mayence . Eight weeks later he was called to Italy as an aide de camp with General Paul Grenier .

In 1800/81 Delcambre had its own command in the Rhine Army . He fought near Hohenlinden (December 3, 1800), in front of Malborghetto and in the battle of Wagram (July 5-76, 1809).

He was later used in the Napoleonic Wars in Spain. In addition to Louis Baraguey d'Hilliers , he fought in front of Figueres (→ Castell de Sant Ferran ) and the Battle of Altafulla (January 24, 1812).

In the battle of Waterloo he was General de brigade Chief of Staff of the 1st Corps under Jean-Baptiste Drouet d'Erlon .

When the July monarchy was established with King Louis-Philippe I , Delcambre did not seek any offices. On June 11, 1832 he retired into private life and settled in Paris. He died there at the age of 88 on October 23, 1858, and found his final resting place there.
