Victor Desarzens

Victor Desarzens (born October 27, 1908 in Château-d'Oex , † February 13, 1986 in Villette ) was a Swiss conductor and violinist . In 1942 he founded the Orchester de Chambre de Lausanne .

Life

Victor Desarzens joined the Orchester de la Suisse romande as a violinist after completing a classical Matura in Yverdon-les-Bains and studying music in Lausanne, and soon became active in the field of chamber music . So he founded a small ensemble, which in 1942 became the Orchester de Chambre de Lausanne , which he directed until 1973.

In 1950 he became a conductor at the Musikkollegium Winterthur (which was then still called the Winterthur City Orchestra ), which he directed until 1975. Together with the Orchester de Chambre de Lausanne , he made numerous tours abroad; this became a renowned ensemble, which mainly devoted itself to baroque and contemporary music. Together with Ernest Ansermet , he was one of the pioneers of classical music life in French-speaking Switzerland .
