Jean Balissat

Jean Balissat (born May 15, 1936 in Lausanne , † September 16, 2007 in Corcelles-le-Jorat ) was a Swiss composer , music teacher , musician and conductor .

Life

Jean Balissat studied harmony and counterpoint in Lausanne with Hans Haug and from 1954 in Geneva composition and orchestration with André-François Marescotti and conducting with Samuel Baud-Bovy . At the same time he studied percussion with Charles Peschier and horn with Robert Faller .

From 1972 to 1983 he was professor of composition and orchestration at the Geneva Conservatory . Since 1979 he has also worked as a professor at the Lausanne Conservatory. Through his lessons at the Geneva and Lausanne Conservatories, he led numerous young students in composition and orchestration.

From 1960 to 1983 he was a conductor in various wind orchestras, including 12 years with the well-known La Landwehr wind orchestra in Friborg, Switzerland.

Jean Balissat was head of the Swiss Tonkünstlerverein (STV) from 1986 to 1990 and since 1991 president of SUISA (“Swiss Society for the Rights of Authors of Musical Works”).
