Victor Mature
Victor Mature , actually Victor Joseph Maturi , (born January 29, 1913 in Louisville , Kentucky , † August 4, 1999 in Rancho Santa Fé , California ) was an American actor .
Life
Victor Mature was spotted on the stage at the Pasadena Playhouse . He played his first leading role in 1940 in the film Tumak, the lord of the jungle . After that film, he was signed to 20th Century Fox . When the United States entered World War II , he volunteered to be a weapon. Therefore there were no film appearances between 1943 and 1945.
From the late 1940s, the muscular actor starred in westerns , bible , historical and monumental films, such as one of the first Cinemascope films, The Robe (1953) alongside Richard Burton and Jean Simmons . One of his most famous leading roles was that of Samson in Cecil B. DeMille's epic Samson and Delilah (1949) alongside Hedy Lamarr . In addition to the film itself, a quote from Groucho Marx about Matures' physical qualities became famous: “(...) I don't like films in which men's tits are bigger than women's.” “Well, there's just one problem, CB No picture can hold my interest where the leading man's tits are bigger than the leading lady's. "
From the 1960s onwards, his film appearances became more and more irregular. Ironically, his career ended with a role in a television adaptation of Samson and Delilah made for US television in 1984. Mature played Samson's father, Manoah .
Mature is said to have earned a good $ 18 million in around 60 films. He invested his money in a number of television businesses.
Mature died of cancer. A star has been commemorating the actor on the Hollywood Walk of Fame since 1960.
