Victor Ritter Ofenheim von Ponteuxin (born November 18, 1820 in Vienna ; † October 11, 1886 there ) was an Austrian industrialist and honorary consul general for the Empire of Persia .

Life

Victor Ofenheim came from a Jewish merchant family. He studied law with the aim of pursuing a career in the diplomatic service. In 1843 he became a civil servant in the court chamber , but in 1849 moved to the General Directorate for Railway Construction of the Ministry of Commerce. In 1856 he left the public service and joined the administration of the Galician Carl-Ludwig-Bahn . In 1864 he became a partner in the concession for the Lemberg-Chernivtsi-Jassy railway and general director. He developed the plan to build a rail link between the North or Baltic Sea and the Black Sea. Over the course of time, Ofenheim built up an economic empire that included holdings in more than 100 other companies.

At the beginning of his business activity, Ofenheim had over 50,000 guilders . After twenty years his fortune was estimated at over 2.5 million guilders.

On the Lviv-Chernivtsi train a series of accidents, including the collapse of the bridge over the occurred Prut what they under state receivership was made. In addition, investigations were carried out against Victor Ritter Ofenheim von Ponteuxin for the appropriation of unauthorized profits from building contractors and suppliers. At the trial in January 1876, however, he was acquitted of the charges brought against him.

From 1882 to 1886 he acted as the general deputy honorary consul of Persia at the Viennese court.
