Victor Stoichiță
Victor Ieronim Stoichiță (born June 13, 1949 in Bucharest ) is an art historian .
Life
From 1967 Stoichiță studied art history , philosophy and comparative literature at the University of Bucharest and the University of Rome . In 1973 he received his doctorate at the University of La Sapienza in Rome with the thesis La formazione di Duccio . He was assistant at the art history seminar at the University of Bucharest (1973–82) and academic advisor at the University of Munich (1984–89). Stoichiță completed his habilitation (These d'Etat) in 1989 with the work Le Prémoderne: aspects poétiques et intertextuels dans la peinture du XVIe et XVI at the Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne .
From 1991 to 2019 he was Professor of the History of Modern Art at the Swiss University of Friborg . He is a visiting professor at the Istituto di studi italiani of the University of Italian Switzerland and has lectured at the University of Lucerne . He is a member of the Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin and the award committee for the Balzan Prize .
The main areas of teaching and research are the hermeneutics and anthropology of the image in Italian and Spanish modern art.
