Victor Wolfgang von Hagen
Victor Wolfgang von Hagen (born February 29, 1908 in St. Louis , † March 8, 1985 in Italy ) was an American explorer , archaeological historian , anthropologist and travel writer .
Hagen traveled to Latin America with his first wife Christine and later also with his second wife Sylvia (née Edzard). In the early 1950s he undertook a two-year research trip on the paths of the ancient Inca roads in Peru and discovered the only remaining suspension bridge on this route. This trip was financially made possible by the Hamburg merchant Sigmund Gildemeister, Silvia's grandfather, and therefore the book "Highway of the Sun" was dedicated to him.
Between 1940 and 1965 he wrote a variety of recognized books on the American Inca , Mayan , and Aztec peoples.
His daughter Adriana von Hagen is now deputy director of the Museum of Leymebamba (Peru).
