Victor of Halem

Victor von Halem (born March 26, 1940 in Berlin ) is a German opera singer ( bass ).

Life

Von Halem grew up in Portugal and Italy as the son of the German diplomat Gustav Adolph von Halem and Viktoria Margarethe von Dörnberg .

His first significant engagement was through Herbert von Karajan at the Deutsche Oper in West Berlin . He then worked with von Karajan in productions and recordings at the Salzburg Festival .

He participated in the 1980 Grammy nominated recording of Parsifal under von Karajan and in 1992 received the “Premio Pegasus” for his debut in Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg at the Festival dei Due Mondi in Spoleto.

Von Halem has sung at most of the major opera houses and festivals. His operatic repertoire includes more than a hundred roles.

From 2008 to 2012 he sang a. a. in Yvonne, princesse de Bourgogne ( Philippe Boesmans ), Don Giovanni , Don Carlos , Lucio Silla , Palestrina , Parsifal , Saint François d'Assise ( Olivier Messiaen ), Lulu and The Love of the Three Oranges .

Von Halem and his wife Gabriele Renner have a daughter and a son.
